COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Birding Community Support

The DuPage Birding Club is an ardent supporter of the birding community, both locally, nationally, and internationally. From our fundraising efforts and dues, we set aside funds each year to support bird-worthy causes.

We maintain memberships in organizations that serve the birding community:

  • American Bird Conservancy, sponsors of this conservation group focused on the Americas
  • Bird Conservation Network, with four members serving as our liaisons in this regional coalition

We support local and regional bird conservation and research efforts; in the last four years, we have donated $21,417 to a range of organizations. Recipients 2019-2023 include the following:

  • American Bird Conservancy
  • Bird Conservation Network
  • Chicago Bird Collision Monitors
  • Cosley Zoo Bird Talk Tree
  • Fermilab Natural Areas
  • Friends of the DuPage County Forest Preserve
  • Illinois Ornithological Society Grant Program
  • Illinois Wesleyan University Red-tailed Hawk Study
  • “Magic Stump” Film Project
  • Midewin Tallgrass Prairie Alliance
  • "Monty and Rose" Piping Plover Film Project
  • Pelee Island Bird Obvservatory
  • Springbrook Prairie Restoration Program through Forest Preserve of DuPage County
  • The Wetlands Initiative
  • Wild Things
  • Willowbrook Wildlife Preserve sponsorship of Red-shouldered Hawk and Turkey Vulture exhibits

We participate in local birding community events through sponsorships:

  • Gull Frolic
  • Birding America
  • Wild Things
  • Numerous community-centric outreach events throughout the year

We host a Community Outreach program to respond to requests from local organizations interested in learning more about birds:

We present programs for schools, libraries, senior centers, scouting clubs, and other organizations that want to learn more about birding.  Programs can be tailored to the interests of the audience, ranging from an introduction to birding to exploring the common birds of DuPage County or focusing on specific species, such as hummingbirds.

We also provide a range of resources for birders at all skill levels, including getting-started guides on where to find birds and how to attract them to your yard, a robust DBC Education Channel on You Tube to develop birding ID skills, a set of tools for educators, and more.  For more information, visit dupagebirding.org/learn-about-birds/#.

True to our mission of Birding with a Purpose, we put our passion for birds to work through proactive engagement with the birding community and committing our funds to serve that purpose.
