Happy 40th Birthday to DBC!

It's a milestone year for the DuPage Birding Club! On January 14, the Club will have been in existence for 40 years! That's pretty impressive longevity for an all-volunteer organization whose members belong simply (and renew their membership each year) because they love watching, hearing, and learning about birds! Kudos to the 21 founding members who saw a need and had a vision, and kudos to the 40 leadership teams who have created programs, field trips and other activities that have kept us interested.

Learn More: Region’s Black-crowned Night-Heron Project

Did you know that the largest colony of Black-crowned Night-Herons in the state of Illinois exists on the grounds adjacent to the urban Lincoln Park Zoo? And that a major project is underway to relocate some of the colony to protect it should a natural or other calamity befall it? Illinois Audubon Society, Lincoln Park Zoo, Bird Conservation Network (of which DBC is a member), Chicago Black-crowned Night-Heron Project, and the University of Illinois are partnering to sponsor a series of Zoom programs to raise awareness and to support ongoing research. “Birds in Art” Exhibition Comes to Will County, January 2 thru February 25

The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum selected 60 pieces from its annual “Birds in Art” exhibition for a national tour, and the Will County Forest Preserve is its first stop! This prestigious show features an international team of artists interpreting bird themes in diverse styles and habitats. This free event will be held January-February at the Plum Creek Nature Center. DBC’s Winter ‘24 Photo Contest Now Open!

The DBC is looking for pictures of birds taken between December 1, 2023, and February 29, 2024. All photos are welcome: amateur, funny, imperfect, high-quality. The “story behind the shot” is also taken into account when judging. The judges want this to be a fun contest; no categories have been predefined for award winners so every entry has a chance to win!
