DBC’s Spring 2024 Photography Contest Winners Set a High Bar

With more than 50 beautiful photos submitted, the Photography Contest Judges had a really tough time selecting this quarter's winners. The entries were judged by Andie Duffy, Steve Constantelos, Natalie McFaul, Thelma Hulka, and Mike Warner. Best of Show went to Tim Duitsman for his stunning photo of a Cedar Waxwing about to nab a Cicada.

DBC Paintbox rolls out for budding bird artists

The DBC Outreach team is pleased to introduce DBC Paintbox, a color-by-number series of bird images that guides the budding bird artist in bringing a beautiful bird image to life. The drawings are highly detailed, which helps the artist learn the parts of the bird. Many birders practice drawing birds to force themselves to look carefully at all parts of the bird. The first three birds in the Paintbox series are American Goldfinch, Downy Woodpecker, and Mallard with more to follow. DBC to Exhibit at Wild Things 2021

DuPage Birding Club will be a virtual exhibitor at the all-virtual Wild Things Conference 2021, which will be held over two weekends - Part 1 February 19-21 and Part 2 February 26-28. This biennial conference features workshops and presentations from regional and national experts plus videos, exhibits, and opportunities to connect with like minds in the community. Topics cover nature and conservation topics that are germane to the Chicagoland region.

Mini-Tutorial: Female Diving Ducks

  The DBC Board is pleased to present Mini-Tutorials on the DBC YouTube Channel. Mini-tutorial covering females of the nine species of diving ducks we can find in DuPage County, with the Hooded Merganser representing all three merganser species of our area. While the males of these birds are often easier to tell apart, it’s a fun challenge to learn the distinguishing details of the females. With these tips and some persistent practice, you’ll start noting differences of the colors, structure, and patterns of these birds’ heads, bills, bodies, and tails that will make ID a satisfying achievement.
