YouTube Tutorial: Checklist of the Birds of DuPage County

The DBC Board is pleased to present Mini-Tutorials on the DBC YouTube Channel.

This week we launch the mini-tutorial about the sixth edition of The Checklist of the Birds of DuPage County. The checklist features 268 species of birds observed regularly in DuPage. Presented here by its creator, Denis Kania, the checklist indicates abundance of each species by season and which birds breed here. The list has some new additions and some species that have dropped off the list, and some are just hanging on. Get out and look for them all, and tabulate your findings, with the help of this checklist.

As meetings and field trips have been canceled for the short term due to the Covid-19 quarantine the Board offers a way to connect with you and enrich your birding experience. We are tapping the expertise of DBC President Denis Kania, who will record a range of Mini-Tutorials to provide bird identification strategies for challenging birds, tips for using our checklist, understanding parts of a bird, and more.

Several Mini-tutorials are live and focus on: the return of Ospry in DuPage; the Tanagers; Hairy vs. Downy Woodpeckers; Pine Warbler vs. Yellow-throated Vireo; yellow, female warblers; separating Louisiana and Northern Waterthrushes, a look at early-arriving small flycatchers and then a drill down on bird topography to help you analyze what you see when you look at a bird. And more fascinating topics will follow.
